Dennis McCarthy was born in Wales about 1859 (or 1854 or 1860, or who knows?).  He was the son of Denis McCarty and Mary (or maybe Hannah) Cronin who were born in Ireland. Dennis was the eldest of the children we know of-- Patrick, Ellen, Mary and Johanna.  Mary may have been born in Goleen, West Schull in 1845. Her parents of the same names as my Dennis' parents were married there in 1843 and also had a son Jeremiah in 1844.  But, we cannot be certain of them, yet.

Dennis was my great-grandfather.  The children (and maybe the parents) came to settle in Pittsburgh, PA in the early 1870s.  Dennis married Mary Donlin and they had Elizabeth Lily, Helen Eileen, James Anthony and Francis Carroll.  Patrick married Ellen Stack and had lots of kids.  Mary married Luke O'Keefe.  Ellen married Bartholomew Collins.  Johanna married Michael Casey.

If anyone has a clue or a theory as to where Denis and Mary Cronin came from and when and why they left for Wales, please contact me.  Thanks!
