John McConnell was my 3rd great grandfather. He may have been born in Holywood in about 1814. He married Mary Ann Kennedy at the First Presbyterian Church of Newtownards on 14 Sep 1833. They had seven known sons and three daughters and they lived in the townlands of Drumhirk and Ballyhinny. The 1864 Griffiths' Valuation has John renting a house, office and land at Ballyhenny. John made a detailed will on the last day of 1874 giving the names of his children, many of whom were living in Scotland and Pennsylvania, USA. His wife Mary Ann was not mentioned in the will and her death cannot be found in the civil registers from 1864. John, farmer, widower, aged 62 died at Balleyhinney in 1876, his son William John of Balleyhinney was present.
