John was a shopkeeper and Publican in Pallasgreen. He Married Bridget Carey who was 17 years younger which makes me think he may have been married before. He had 7 children 5 lining as per 1911 census. Julia Angela, Micheal, Mary,Johanna, and Annie. He was known as the yank? So he must have spent some time in the states before returning and marrying Bridget.
The post office next door was run by Jeremiah Dwyer 1852 who may have been a brother.

The theme was always the same: the pestilential climate of the island, the reduction of poor emigrants to slaves, the severity and cruelty of the planters (and planter-dominated Assembly clinging to every vestige of oppression) and, of course, the absence of priests and chapels.

    Famine Evictions near Limerick

KILRUSH – The tide of emigration continues to flow rapidly upon town. Numbers of the farming classes flock in here daily for emigration.

A vessel left this Monday morning with over 30 passengers for America. It was most heartrending to witness the departure of those poor fellows, who are about to brave the dangers of the sea in this tempestuous season, flying from the scenes of misery and destitution everywhere prevailing. – Limerick Examiner.
