Ellen married Janes Lawrence of Tawnaghmore, Cloone parish, Mohill, County Leitrim, Ireland on 15 March 1861.  
Ellen and James had 5 children: Susan Mary (married William Forbes Geddes), John Henry (married Kate Emily Thompson), James Bolton (married Elizabeth Jane Grant), Anne Elizabeth (married Henry Edwin Allen), Israel Robert (married Elizabeth McRae)
On 19 Mar 1906 • Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Ellen travelled to Canada with Robert and his family.  On the Manitoba 1906 Census she was living with Annie and Henry.
