Bridget Higgins was born on 6 April 1906 in Cloonerra, Cloonfinlough. She was the daughter of James Higgins and Mary Anne Flanagan.

In 1911, Bridget (5) lived with James (45) and Mary Anne (44) and her siblings Mary Kate (8), John (7), Annie (4), Michael (3) and Lizzie (1). The family home was a thatched cottage with three rooms for its eight members. There were three front windows built in. James's farm was located right beside it, holding a stable, cow house and piggery.

Bridget (30) married John Ames on 9 June 1936 in Four Mile House Church. He was a farmer from Drinane in Strokestown. Their witnesses were Peter Ames and Margaret Flanagan, Bridget's twenty four year old cousin who lived up the road from her in Kilbride.
