John Murphy, carpenter b.1820, Athy

Can anyone shed any light on the Irish roots of my Catholic ancestor John Murphy b.1820 (Aug?) who was a carpenter from Athy.

He was recuited to the 1st Bombay European Regiment in Dec 1840 in Dublin, survived several years of fighting in Indian wars, rose to Sergeant, eventually purchasing his discharge in 1853. He married an Irish woman in India, and they had one child.

I came across a Find My Past death record which make me wonder if my ancestor returned to Athy from India, for whatever reason. Or is it by coincidence a another John Murphy of very similar age?
