Walking in her ancestor’s footsteps

Lead volunteer: Elwyn Soutter

Templepatrick (Antrim)

Melanie Greer Huff, from the USA, was on the trail of her Greer ancestors in Templepatrick, County Antrim. She met Ireland Reaching Out volunteers Elwyn Soutter and Andrew Kane. They visited Templepatrick Non-Subscribing Presbyterian church which was built in 1784 and is where Melanie’s ancestor’s worshiped before they went to America.

Her Greer ancestors were probably buried in the nearby graveyard. They found some Greer graves but they were too overgrown or the memorials were face down to tell if they were definitely her family.

They also took her to Cloghanduff townland where her ancestors farmed. With the help of Ireland Reaching Out, Melanie was pleased to walk in the footsteps of her ancestors.
