Hi Dennis,

Thank you for your message.

Civil registration did not become mandatory in Ireland until 1864, however parish churches did record events such as baptisms, marriages etc. so this is where you will have to go to find these records. Do you know what religion the family were?

Most Catholic records are held locally so it may be an idea to write to the local priest for assistance. One website which you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Templemore parish follow this link:

http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Tipperary%20North&parish=Templemore&churchid=258

For Moyne parish, follow this link:

http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Tipperary%20North&parish=Moyne-and-Templetuohy&churchid=276

For Church of Ireland records check: http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/.  The Anglican Record Project is has created an index to their records: http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/bunclodyunionindex.pdf

Have you tried looking for any of these records online? Family Search have a good database of genealogical records so you may find something there:

www.familysearch.org

You could also try searching at http://rootsireland.ie/ . However please note that you have to pay to view these records.

Alternatively, you could contact North Tipperary Genealogy Centre-a fee may apply. Here are the contact details:

North Tipperary Genealogy Centre,

The Governor?s House,

Kickham Street,

Nenagh,

Co. Tipperary.

Phone: +353 (0) 67 33850        Email: tipperarynorthgenealogy@eircom.net

I hope this is helpful.

Kind regards,
