Trying to Find My Parish

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your message. I am very sorry that we are only getting to it now and that we have missed your visit to Ireland.

With regards to finding out the parish that Abraham was born in, have you tried searching the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century? These can be searched online. Although they do not give any genealogical information you may be able to use them to tie either Abraham or Benjamin to s specific place in Wicklow. There are two:

The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp

and Griffith's Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

You could also do a search for the names at https://familysearch.org/

Have you looked in to Abraham's emigration much? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than that of departure. If you knew where he entered Canada it may be a place to find more information-and perhaps even an exact place of origin. For immigration information in Canada try the Natinal Library and Archive: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/index-e.html

Some other websites which may be helpful are:

The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/

The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

Genealogy Links:   http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/wicklow/index.html

I hope that this helps you in your search for Abraham's parish and that you know more about his place of origin before your next visit. Once again, apologies for the delay in responding to your message.

Kind regards,
