Looking for members of the Carroll family from Co Wicklow

WicklowDelgany (Wicklow)

Hi

I am trying to build a family tree for the Carroll family but have come to a halt.

I know that my great grandfather was Thomas James Alphonso Carroll.  I believe he was born in 1871 in Co Wicklow and his father's name was John.  I have found that he was stationed in Aldershot in England in 1891 as he joined the Royal Horse Artillery.  I have managed to build a life story from that point but struggling to find much before then.

I'm using Ancestry.com and made the following assumptions based on birth and marriage records but not sure if they are correct.

I believe John Carroll was born in 1842 and might have married Anne Collins.  I don't have a year of birth but I think she died around 1901 because John remarried  Jane Cunningham in 1908 and had a daughter called Mary Eleanor (Ellen).

John and Anne may have had a daughter called Eliza, born 1878.

I have found a photo of a grave with John and Jane's name on them, together with her 2nd husband, Frank Plant.  The words "Three Trout Bridge" are also on there, which I now know relates to a place in Delganey, Co Wicklow.  So I think that John may have lived there.

He may have had 2 sisters, Margaret and Ellen, but this is guess work, based on documents that have been suggested to me on Ancestry.

I would love it if anyone knows anything more concrete.

The baptism record for Thomas (1871) from Delgany Church of Ireland Parish Union records (Anglican Records Project/RCBL) that Thomas was baptised on the 26th November the same year and the family lived at 'Black Lion' - which is a village and locality just inland from the town of Greystones. The town of Delgany and village and townland of Killincarrig are about 2km (~1.5 miles) to the south

John Carroll married Anne Collins on the 4th October 1869 and Monkstown Church of Ireland, both are recorded as 'Full age' i.e. 21 or over, and first marriage for both. Thomas gives his residence as Delgany and Anne as 'Kingstown', now Dún Laoghaire - Monkstown was the CofI parish for the town.

The fathers were Thomas Carroll & George Collins, both labourers.

See the entry from the marriage civil register at this link (2nd entry on the page)

The transcript of the Delgany parish records (Anglican Records Project/RCBL) show a possible baptism for this John Carroll on the 26th November 1843, with parents Thos. (Thomas) and Mary, address is Delgany, father's occupation is Labourer.

A further search shows the following likely siblings to this John :

Edward 28th February 1830, res. Stilebawn (*)

Jane 30th September 1838, res. Delgany

Ellen 6th September 1840, res. Delgany

(John 1843)

Jane 2nd June 1844, res. Stilebawn

Father's (John) occupation on all is Labourer.

(*) there are two separate townlands named Stilebawn in the area - one of these is adjacent to the town of Delgany and just over half a km west of Three Trout(s) Bridge..

The transcripts include a likely burial for Thomas Carroll, 29th October 1888, reported age 83 res. Three Trout Bridge

There's also a possible marriage for the parents in the records - Thomas Carroll and Mary Quin - by banns, 20 April 1829, both otp ('of this parish' - i.e. Delgany/Kilcoole)

Oh my goodness!  I have just logged back in and seen all the replies!!!  Some of the information I managed to find through Ancestry but there are siblings that I never knew about which may help my search further.

Thank you so much to everyone who has responded!!
