Burns & McFadden ancestors from Wicklow

Hi Donna thanks for your message.

Do you know the name of the parish that the Burns/McFaddens/Jacksons lived in? Civil registration in Ireland didn't begin until 1864. So prior to this all information collected is in the church registers. Most of these are held locally so you need to know the name of a parish to know which registers to check.

Do you know much about their emigration? Generally, more information was given at the port of arrival rather than that of departure. Consequently, immigration records may be a good place to find information-and perhaps even an exact place of origin. For immigration records in Canada check the National Library and Archives of Canada at: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/index-e.html

You could also try doing a search in either the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838 or Griffith's Valuation (1848-1864). These were land survesys that were carried out in Ireland. Perhaps if they are in these you may get a parish name or even a townland/village name. You can search these here:

Some other websites which may help are:

The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/

The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

I hope this helps. If you find any more information remember to post it as the more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Kind regards,
