Aspel or Archbold fully interchangeable
Hello
I am researching my family history and have hita brick wall. My furthest link into my Irish past is a George Archbold.
I don't know where George is originally from and so I am coming to investigate in person at Easter week. George lived in Dublin but wasn't born there. His second child was baptised 19th March 1841 in Ballyconran, Kilrush. What intrigues me is that at that time he used his other surname of Aspel and his wife was Maria Doyle.
My reason for explaining all this is that I need a bit of local insight. I would love to know why people had interchangeable surnames and if you could suggest how I might look for George's first born Michael (1840 ish) who is my direct line.
Also I am advised that George Aspel is in the wrong parish here as the name rarely appears. This is a bit odd as I assume in early 1800's the population was more static but I could be wrong.
Can anyoneguide me, I have written to the parish church mentioned in another post too? I don't want todrive past my homelands without realising.
