Search for Ellen Hogan of Bree

WexfordBallyhoge (Wexford)

I'm reasonably sure Ellen Hogan was born in Bree about 1821 and came to Sydney aborad the Rodney on 15 March 1854.Arrived with her husband, Thomas Kenny (he may have been from Davidstown) and their four children - May (11 yrs), James (10 yrs), Ellen (8 yrs) & Patrick (5 yrs). their immigration was processed on 18 Mar 1854. Both parents were listed as deceased, so it would be good to know who they are. Ellen died in Sydney on 24 Sept 1873.

Thanks for any help.

Regards,

Greg Smith, Perth.

Hello, Col.

How terrible of me not to reply. I am sorry for that. Many thanks for the trouble you took to look for this. I get so bogged down and forget to attend to other things.

I'm not sure about the birth record, as her 1873 death certificate here in NSW lists her as aged 50, with parents Peter Hogan (farmer) and Ellen Doyle. Place of origin Wexford and she arrived age 18. Though this doesn't tally with her arrival documents whihc state she was 33.

Not sure whihc Thomas it may be, either. Maybe a clue in their children's names and pattern. Mary, James, Ellen, Patrick, Peter, Margaret, Elizabeth, Jane.

Kind regards

Greg

Time flies Greg!

Another variable to consider is that Wexford was her place of departure rather than her birthplace so here's another with parents' first names correct:

Name:Ellen HoganDate of Birth:
Date of Baptism:21-Jan-1817Address:
Parish/District:ST PATRICK'SGender:
CountyCo. Waterford
Denomination:Roman Catholic
Father:Peter HoganMother:Ellen RussellOccupation:

Would dna testing help?
