Looking for Price surname

WestmeathMullingar (Westmeath)

My Great grandfather was John Price. When he joined the British Army, stated that he was born in Mullingar in December 1846, and that his father's name was Timothy. I have been trying to find the family for around 20 years now, and would be grateful for any help or advice availabe from your members.

I visited Mullingar about 15 years ago (before records were fully on line), but could not get any help from either RC or CoI churchesat that time.

Perhaps you know where the records are now stored or if they have been digitised, which site to look at?

Many thanks and best regards

Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie  indicates that they have Mullingar RC records back to the 1700s. The C of I baptismal records don't start until 1849 but marriages start in the 1700s. See link.

I could only find an 1849 baptismal record for a John Price but the father was not Timothy. I also did not check the parish.

I also looked at the 1854 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Mullingar parish and there was no Timothy Price listed.

Hi Ina, my name is Alejandro Price. And my great-grandfather's name is John Price, born in Co.Mullingar (apparently in Rathconnell but we are not sure) born apparently in the year 1842 (but idk if that's correct.).
I know your post is a bit old, but maybe we can chat and share more information.
Regards!

Does someone know how I can contact Ina Glover? This could be my chance to know a bit more about my family tree. Also, my parents are traveling in a few months to Ireland and could be interesting.

Alejandro:

Each time a comment is made on an existing message thread, all prior commentators receive a notification. So in this case Ina and myself. My guess is that Ina no longer uses the e-mail address that she used in 2014. At this point, I don't know how we can contact her.

Thanks Roger, hope she is still using it.
If you think of another way, please let me know

hello! I just stumbled upon this post and thought i should leave a comment. I'm a 2nd cousin of Ina's, & I'm sorry to say that she passed away several years ago.

Alejandro, I'd love to hear about your John. I found a few Price families in the Mullingar area on Irishgenealogy.ie

Hi Beccym17! Sorry to hear that! I have this conversation pinned in my email waiting for her reply.

But glad you replied!

Unbelievable but true, the day before your reply, on 12/29/24 I received a notification from FamilySearch ‘We have found a historical record that may include information on your 3rd great grandfather’ and I believe I found John's baptismal record.

I don't know if you can see this link, but this is the record I found, I think it may be my John's baptismal record.

And this is the John in my family tree:

Mainly we knew that John Price was from ‘Rathconnell, Co.Mullingar, Irland’, born in 1842. That's all we had.

He arrived and worked for almost 20 years in a countryside in Uruguay, in 1866 he travelled to Suipacha, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He lived there and in other little towns near Suipacha. He had 3 boys and a girl. And finally died in Suipacha on 18/1/1924.

Thanks again for your reply!

I'm not sure if you have an Ancestry account, so I took these screenshots of who I think must be your John on the birth records?

Mary's maiden name is spelt differently on the information page, but looks closer to 'Burn' on the actual record. There's also a note in brackets that one of John's parents was a protestant, which may help with further records.

Also, if you look closely in the book, there is an Eliza Price below John's name, with the same parents. He had a twin sister!

The place-name is difficult to make out given the page cut-off, but the beginning definitely looks like 'Rath'.

Our John had twins, as did one of his grandchildren, so my Mum commented the other night that perhaps this John could be ours 😂 but your information has been an unbelievable help as we now know that the Rathconnell Prices aren't our lineage.
