John Fagan born 1834

Westmeath

Hi, I am looking for some help researching my 2nd great grandfather, John Fagan.

Here's the information I have on him:

  • Born around 1834 in Ireland
  • Married Margaret Moran (born 1824? in Meath Co, to parents Christopher Moran and Elizabeth Smith)
  • Immigrated to New Hampshire
  • Birth record of son John Henry Fagan in New Hampshire lists his birthplace as "Bath Boren" (possibly a spelling mistake, I can find no references, see attached screen shot)
  • Birth record of son Christopher lists his birthplace as West Mead
  • His death record in 1907 lists his father as John Fagan, a farmer

Any additional information on him, or his father John would be extremely helpful!

Hello,

Looking on the paid site, Roots Ireland, there are 17 John Fagans with a father named John born in Westmeath between 1827 and 1840. The records only show the parish names, not the town land names. Do you know the year he married Margaret Moran?

On RootsIreland (paid subscription), there is a marriage between Hugh Fagan and Margaret Moran in Devlin, Westmeath, May 29, 1836. When was Christopher, their son, born?

Per Ancestry, Christopher's birth record. He was John and Margaret's 3rd child. On the original document both parents were identified as being born in West Mead, probably Westmeath.

Yes, I am familiar with most of what comes up on Ancestry, which doesn't give me much on the Irish side of things. I don't believe I've seen a documented marriage record.

Amazing there are that many hits on John Fagan in West Meath during that time period! Appreciate you checking.

Searching rootsireland, I didn't find a marriage record for John and Margaret. Perhaps they married in NH? Why not contact the town clerk in Hopkinton? They might hold the record, if there is one.

Since the first son was usually named for the paternal grandfather and since John's first son was called Edward (as per US censuses), I searched for a John Fagan in Meath/Westmeath with a father Edward. I found the following baptism. This John is slightly younger than you believe your John to be, but I am posting it just in case.
