Fagan & Cullen of Collinstown Meath

Westmeath

Hello,

I have been working on the family tree in Ancestry for a while and finally had a breakthrough.  I'm now focusing on Mary Cullen and Matthew Fagan.

In July 1850 in Collinstown, Matthew Fagan married Mary Cullen. In 1852 they had a son (my great grandfather) Gerald Charles Fagan.  Gerald married Mary McDermott and had a son Matther Fagan in 1878 before moving to New York, then North Dakota, then Victoria (Canada).

Any assistance in tracking down any info on Matthew Fagan Sr. (born around 1820?) or his wife Mary Cullen would be greatly appreciated. The family could be in Westmeath or Dublin, but there seems to be several Fagan families.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike:

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and located four siblings to Garrett (as transcribed) Fagan-- Judith 1854 James 1855 Ann 1858 Elizabeth 1861 All baptized in Collinstown RC parish.

I searched for Matthew Fagan in Collinstown and there were baptismal records in 1812 1815(2) 1823 1826 1829   I believe the record for April 13 1826 is the correct record for the father is shown as Garrett. Mother was Judith Magee. The earliest Mary Cullen record in Collinstown was August 27 1831 father Bryan mother Anne Fitzsimons.

They were from the townland of Carpenterstown in the parish of St Feighin's. See my message to you via ancestry. Bryan Cullen (c1796-1874) & Anne Fitzsimons (c1790-1871) from nearby townland of Corbally are almost certainly related to your Mary Cullen Fagan but they're not her parents. I've been chasing these Cullens for quite some time & know the area well. Happy to share info.

All the best,

Kevin
