Mary Seery

In a family burial site in Chicago including Earlys and Killoughys I have found the burial of Mary Seery buried 30 July 1900. The name Seery is unknown to family members but assume there is a connection somehow.

Looking at the death notices in Chicago we find a Mary Seery who had died 29 July 1900 age 5 months 26 days. Looking further at the 1900 US Census is listed a family with an infant daughter named Mary A Seery. Her parents were Patrick and Rosa. In the 1910 Census only Patrick is listed. I assume this is the same Mary who is buried in our family plot.

The only connection we find between Serrys and Early/Killoughys is a Judith Seery who witnessed the marriage of Thomas Earley and Mary Killoughy on 5 March 1878 in Tubberclaire Parish.

Any information on the Seery family and their connection with the Earley and Killougheys would be appreicated.

Thanks very much for your message. I hope that someone with information on the Seery family makes a connection with you and helps you to shed some light on this.

I did a few quick searches on the Seery name here. I checked on Griffith?s Valuation. This is a  land record in Ireland that dates 1848-64. I searched for Seery?s in Co. Westmeath, parish Kilkenny West as this is the parish that Tuberclair (Toberclare) belongs to. Here are the Seery?s that were recorded in the parish in 1854:

You could also try checking the 1901/1911 census records to see what Seerys were recorded in the parish at that time. It may be easier to use the townland name to compare between the census and Griffith?s Valuation:

Have you tried looking further into any of the Earlys/Killoughy?s/Seery?s emigration? Perhaps if you can find their immigration papers, there may be some information on the such as who they travelled with. Naturalisation papers may also be helpful. You could try using the Free genalogy database www.familysearch.org to see if you can find any birth/marriage documents that would help establish a further connection between the families.
