Patrick Donnelly & Catherine Woods Tyrone

Tyrone

I am looking for information on my great great grandparents, Patrick & Catherine (Woods) Donnelly Their son, Michael Henry Donnelly (my great grandfather) immigrated to the US and came to New Britain, Connecticut in 1866 where he became a successful brick maker (Donnelly Brick Company). Catherine must have come to New Britain at some point because she is buried in the family plot in New Britain, CT. Patrick (I think) is buried in Tyrone. Possibly Castderg. I was always told we came from Longfield East parish. I would love to know if Catherine came to the US after Patrick died. Also, what town did the live in. My goal is to visit there.

mminer123,

Patrick Donnelly is a very common name in Tyrone. I found 35 deaths in the Longfield East area (Omagh registration district) for the years 1864 - 1899. There’s more in Castlederg. Can you tell us a bit more about him?

When would he have been born?

When did Catherine die and how old was she?

Does her death certificate confirm she was a widow?

Do you know Patrick’s occupation?

Longfield East’s RC records start in 1846, so if Michael was born before that and his parents married before that, no record probably exists.

If Patrick was a farmer in Longfield East then he might have lived in Cornavarrow. There is one farmer listed there in the 1829 tithes:

Donnelly and McNulty families may have emigrated together to New Brunswick Canada in 1830's.
