My ggGrandfather Michael Downs was born on September 20, 1831 in Ireland and emigrated to the USA in 1851. I found a baptismal record above, and want to investigate the possibility that this is the baptism of my great great Grandfather.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Best regards, Michael J. Downs

Good morning Michael,

I would like to help, but wonder whether you have any other information?

It would be a great help in knowing where to start- such as naming traditions, or are muchael's parents names on his marriage record or death record, any tradition about coming from Tipperary?

good places to look online are:

www.rootsireland.ie

the tithes Applotments are free to search through the National archives of ireland website, as are the 1901 and 1911 census..

if you are a member of Ancestry- the tithes Applotments, griffiths valuation, and various Catholic parish records are searchable.

hope this may be some help,

You can contact me on monsea@irelandxo.com if I can be of any more help
