Flood family of Thurles
Our research over the years on the immigrant John Flood shows that he was b abt 1816, Tipperary, migrated to the US in 1842, registered his intent to become a citizen of Belmont, OH, m. Catherine McGoldrick of Co Caven, and eventually settled in Streater, La Salle Co, Il. With so many new resources coming on-line, I have just found a baptismal record for a John Flood, Thurles, 6 Jun 1815. The transcription record unfortunately does not include the name of the church where this baptism took place. As a long-time researcher of family lines in Co Cork, I know that I have a lot of work to do in educating myself on Tipperary history to include learning which churches in Thurles were doing baptisms in 1815; and I wont bother others with questions until I have done this work.
However, the record of this Johns baptism includes the names of his parents as James Flood, a farmer, and Mary Maher. And . . . there are additional records to include a baptism for a James Flood at Thurles in 1808, and a death record for James at Thurles in 1878; and evidence that there were Floods in Thurles as recently as 1939. So, I am reaching out with this message to see if there is anyone else on Irelandxo who is also researching the Flood family of Thurles. I have done an FtDNA autosomal DNA test, and hope to have other US Flood cousin results in the near future. Thanks to everyone at Irelandxo for your hard work, Sue Minton (2GGD of John Flood)
