Looking for Darby Kelly Homestead in Brockagh, Kilbarron/Terryglass, Tipperary
I found some photos and information posted on Ancestry.ca, that show a Canadian visiting the homestead of Darby Kelly and Mary Byrnes/Burns? in Brockagh, Terryglass RC parish taken in May 2003 with a local guide.
I am interested in identifying its location and possibly visiting there myself as I am also a descendant of Darby and Mary. Sadly, the people who posted the photos have passed away.
(see photos of homestead and guide (Canadian visitor blocked out). Please do not post beyond this site)
I have done my own research and found:
-Darby and his brother Thomas seem to have shared a residence in the Tithe Applotments, 1824 (Brocka, sub denomination, Brockabeg) (under Darby’s name)
-Three of 4 of Darby’s children were baptised in Terryglass parish, Diocese of Killaloe, Domicile: Brocca (Michael, 1828, Ann, 1831, Mary, 1834) (Jeremiah was born before local records were available)
-Darby/Jeremiah Kelly Sr and Jr show up in the Valuation Office Books, House Books in the 1840’s (Houses in Townland Brockagh)
- Darby and his children (Jeremiah, Michael, Ann, Mary) emigrated to Canada (Nepean, Ontario) around 1848-50. We are not sure if Mary Burns made the voyage and died soon after.
- It seems Thomas Kelly and his descendants remained in the Brockagh area, e.g. Son John Kelly (b 1829) and grandson, John Kelly (b 1867) and his family. Descendants all baptised in Terryglass and still living in the area as of 1901, 1911 censuses.
I think I found the specific piece of land where John Kelly (son of Thomas) lived via the Griffith Primary Valuation. I am not sure if this is the homestead location.
(See attachments showing Griffith Valuations Original page, 9b in historic map, 9b in modern map)
If there is someone who can help me locate the original homestead, it would be much appreciated.
Maureen
