Can you tell me which generation were related to the Clancys and which Clancy family?
Hello Tippgal. At this point in my research I just suspect that the Clancy's and the Fitzgerald's were related. You find them living together in the 1851 Cencus for Otonabee, Peterborough, Ontario, CA. There is a William Clancy born 1801. His wife is listed as Mrs. Clancy. Living either with them or next door were David Mahoney b.1826, Thomas Fitzgerald, 1814 and his family, David Fitzgerald b. 1823 and his family, John Fitzgerald b. 1813, James Fitzgerald B. 1826, and Mary Fitzgerald b. 1813.
I have marriage records for David and James Fitzgerald that prove they were brothers and they came from Templetenny. Mary Clancy was the maid of honor at the wedding of Jame Fitzgerald and Alice Mahoney. (sister to the aforementioned David Mahoney) James and David were the sons of Thomas Fitzgerald and Ann Mahoney of Templetenny. The Clancy's show up pretty regularly as baptism sponsors for many of James and David's children. Sooooo I am thinking that the Mrs. Clancy of the 1851 Census could be a Fitzgerald sister or cousin to James and David, and I am still looking for more conclusive evidence to link Thomas, John and Mary to these two brothers.
Does any of this sound familiar?
Maybe I can be of help to you. I live in Ballyporeen ..........back in the day it was known as Templetenny.
