Sarah LYONS (maybe Sally LYONS) father William LYONS and mother Mary HOGAN
Hello all
I am trying to trace the Irish birth / baptism record and then the migration to Australia details - she sailed on the Balnaguith arriving in Australia on 1 Nov 1855 - for my 3rd Great Grandmother Sarah LYONS (maybe recorded as Sally LYONS). born c.1836
I have her marriage certificate where she married in Australia in 1856 a Francis HAMILTON and she lists her father as William LYONS and mother Mary HOGAN. And witnesses at her wedding were Andrew LYONS and Mary LYONS which I am assuming are her siblings because they both were passengers on the same ship coming to Australia. The shipping record records them as Native Country - Kings County, Ireland (I believe this place is now known as Offaly) and they are all listed as Religions: RC.
I am hoping there are Lyons or Hogans here who think they may have a shared Ancestry and are able to share some insights.
I believe Sarah had siblings
Andrew born c.1832 listed as Ag. Labourer
Bridget (Biddy), born c.1838 listed as Domestic Servant
Mary born c.1834 listed as Domestic Servant
(Again on shipping Record lists these all from Kings County, Ireland and Religion: RC.)
Also on this same shipping record there is a family listed together as
William LYONS born c.1811 listed as Ag, Labourer
Fanny HOGAN born c.1814
Margaret LYONS born c.1843
William LYONS born c.1845
Ann LYONS born c.1850
Now with this family I am unsure if they are travelling with Andrew, Biddy, Mary and Sally LYONS as they are listed on a seperate page. This being perhaps the above family are listed together as its parents and children and the other 4 people maybe children off but listed seperatly as no longer of dependant age.
But again I question if this family are infact connected to my family because the mother here seems to be a Fanny and I can't seem to connect the name Fanny to being maybe a pet name for Mary. But I then wonder if maybe Mary HOGAN died and William then ended up with Fanny HOGAN (Maybe Fanny is Mary's sibling and she married her brother-in-law after the death of her sister to help raise the children, and maybe had these children listed as travelling with her and William maybe they are theres and the others listed seperately are William and Mary's children from his first marriage.
I really am at a loss here as to finding records for them.
As being in Australia am unsure how to tackle Irish records.
I am really hoping someone maybe has an interest or even connection to this family that can help me piece this family together.
Warmest Regards
Alison
