Ancestors of Michael O'Donnell who was possibly born near Golden 1815-17

TipperaryKilfeacle (Tipperary)

Seeking information about the ancestors of Michael O'Donnell, possibly bornnear Golden about 1815-17. His father's name was Richard O'Donnell and his mother's name was Mary (maiden name unknown). It's not known if Michael had any brothers or sisters. Michael married Sarah Meade (her parents were Richard Meade and Mary (maiden name Murphy) from Cork. The marriage took place in the Church of St Finbarr inDunbar St Cork on 14 October 1840 (we have a copy of the marriage certificate). Michael and Sarah then left for Australia on 23 January 1841 on the Moffat. He's shown on the ships records as being23when he left (indicating he may have been born in 1817), but he died in Australia on 6 March 1861 and is recorded as being in his 45th year (indicating he may have been born in 1815 or 1816.His father, Richard, had died by January 1841, as his mother is noted on Michael's embarkation papers as a widow and Michael is noted as being from Golden. He may have been educated, as he took a position as a teacher in Australia in 1842 at a Catholic school,.before taking up farm management..

Good Morning

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in replying to your message.

As you can see from the link below, Kilfeacle is a townland in the Civil Parish of Rathaspick in Co. Laois: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/townlands/index.cfm?fuseaction=TownlandsInCivil&civilparishid=1472&civilparish=Rathaspick&citycounty=Laois

Records for the corresponding Roman Catholic Parishes of Doonane begin in 1843 and Ballyadams begins in 1828. There are some places where you can search online, however these websites do not have complete collections and many do not cover the period after 1900:

www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.

www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.

http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ have begun a project to upload Irish church records to their site free of charge. However so far only Counties Dublin, Kerry, Carlow and parts of Cork have been covered.

Some other websites that may be helpful are:

The National Archives of Ireland: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/ - you can search the 1901/1911 Census on the National Archives page too

The National Library of Ireland: http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

The National Archives UK ? genealogy search:http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/

The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland: http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

Irish Times: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/index.htm

Irish Genealogy Tool kit: http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/

Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Best of luck with your search

Hi Clare,

Sorry, a bit late in replying...

Note there is another Kilfeacle in Co. Tipperary, both a Civil parish, and a townland.

https://www.townlands.ie/tipperary/kilfeakle2/

Mike specified Kilfeacle (Tipperary), so no need to skip to a different Kilfeacle.

Actually, Golden is not in Kilfeacle Civil parish, but in Civil Parish of Relickmurry and Athassel, the next Civil parish to the east.

PS, I am another descendant of this Michael O'Donnell born c.1817. I think Mike above is my father's cousin.
