Dillons of Breanshabeg
Hi, I’m from Australia and have been searching or my great grandfather Edmond Dillon who came to Australia from Tipperary in 1890.
I think I’ve identified his parents as Johanna Danaher and John Dillon from Breanshabeg and he was born there in 1865. That matches his age of 25 in 1890 on the ship Cuzco to Melbourne.
However, he listed his mother on his marriage certificate in Australia as being Josephine Danaher not Johanna so I’m not yet 100% certain.
I’m trying to determine if anyone can confirm the Edmond Dillon from that family did leave for Australia in 1890. It seems his brother Martin followed a few years later but I can’t connect them here either.
I’ve found a lot in information on the family and it seems there are still Dillon’s in the same location (assuming descendants of the same family) so I’m hoping there’s some other links I’ve not yet found.
I’m also wondering if there’s any logical reason his mother’s name was recorded by him as Josephine if she was in fact Johanna. Was it a modernising of the name? All her records in Ireland are consistently Johanna.
There is no Josephine Danaher and John Dillon from Tipperary with a son Edmond born between 1865-1875 I can find anywhere, so I am focused on the Breanshabeg family as the most likely ancestors.
Everything else fits so I’m hoping for one more piece of the puzzle to confirm the connection.
All help appreciated.
cheers,
Noel
