Kennedy Family
Hello, I am researching my Kennedy ancestors. My great-grandfather, Matthew Kennedy, born about 1830, came to Australia from Toomevara in 1855. His father was Thomas Kennedy and I think he was born about 1791 (I took this from his age in the English Census of 1851 - he and his wife and most of theirchildren went to England about 1843 I think but they were back in Toomevara by the time Thomas died in 1864).
In the Tithe Applotment Books 1823-37, Mathew Kennedy is listed as livingin Clonaleigh, Ballymackey, Tipperary in 1824-25. I think it is very likely that he was the father of Thomas, given the location, date and the Irish tradition of naming the first son after the father;s father (i.e., my great-grandfather Matthew, first son of Thomas, would be named for Thomas' father Mathew).
If anyone has any links to this family I would be very grateful for any information you can provide.
Thanks
Colleen Cartwright
