FANNING FAMILY GLENAGUILE TOWNLAND, CO TIPPERARY
I am researching my family - Thomas and Johanna (aka Judy) Fanning and their 8 children.
I have seen the typed transcripts of the church registers of St Stephens RC, Toomavera, Co Tipperary. Only four children were listed, subsequently the spelling was not consistent. - Eliza was recorded as Fannen baptised 26 Sept 1832; Mary as Fanane baptised 16 Jan 1835; residence Glenaguile Toomavera. Then Edward as Fanning baptised 1 May 1842 and Richard baptised 10 April 1847 as Fannen, residence Logg, Toomavera.
I have read the bookThe Famine clearance in Toomevara, County Tipperaryby Helen O'Brien.
I have details of what I belieive is Johanna and three of her children arriving in Australia in1861 - the children were Edward, Judy and Michael. I know that Eliza and Thomas arrived. I descend from Eliza. I am of the opinion that Thomas (snr) and Richard may have died in Ireland. There is a widow Farran listed in Griffith's, but cannot find any other family by that spelling in Co Tipperary. Is it possible to have the original records of Griffith's looked at?
However my question is - the name LAGG appears on the maps of the Griffith's Valuation, however it is not listed in theAlphabetical Index of Townlands and Towns - etc. Was this an estate or was it a village?
I have googled Lagg and there is no record of such a place.
There is townland called Logg in the civil parish of Kilmore. That is too far away too be part of RC parish of Toomevara.
The civil parish for Toomevara is Aghnameadle and I worked out which civil parishes comprise the RC parish of Toomevara.
thank you for your attention.
