Note on family bible " Matilda Elizabeth Green born Oct 22nd 1821 married at Waterloo Church, London to Dennis Patrick Klyne of Castlegal Ireland."  I think Dennis Patrick was born about 1821. He worked as a hatter and gentleman's mercer in Carlisle, and died in Carlisle 4 Feb 1861. He and Matilda Elizabeth had 5 children. I am married to a descendant of his third child Henry James Klyne (1850 -1890).

I would be grateful for any information concerning Dennis Patrick or the Klyne family.

Hi,

Thanks for your message. I hope that someone with information makes a connection with you and helps you to further your research.

Klyne is quite an unusual name for Ireland. I used the Irish Times surname database to  see if there were any recordings of the name in mid-19th century Ireland, however there were none. There were some however with the spelling Clyne:

As you can see from the above link there were none in Sligo. In order to see more closely who this Clynes were, you can look at Griffith?s Valuation which will narrow down the info to parish:

http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNameSearch&familyname=clyne&firstname=&offset=0&countyname=&parishname=&parishname&unionname=&baronyname=&totalrows=60&PlaceID=0&wildcard=

The earlier land record called the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-38) records even less, and again none in Sligo:

There are two Castlegal townlands in CO. Sligo:

http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/townlands/index.cfm?fuseaction=TownlandsInCivil&civilparishid=2093&civilparish=Drumcliff&citycounty=Sligo

You could try looking in both of these parishes? church records to see if you can find more info. Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Ahamlish  parish, follow this link:

For Drumcliff:
