I, too, am researching "Gilmor" in County Sligo. My husband's ancestors, Thomas Gilmor/Gilmore and wife Mary Read/Reid/Reed were married in the diocese of Killala and Achonry in 1828 [existing index of marriage bonds, though the bonds themselves were destroyed in the 1922 fire]. Their first 6 children, who included James (1829), George W. (abt 1837), and Maria/Mary (1839) were born in Ireland, probably County Sligo. They immigrated in 1840-1841 and settled in Ontario, Canada. He was a farmer and they moved around. I know that Thomas Gilmore had a sister Eliza Gilmore, born abt 1806, who married James Kidney. The Kidneys, too, immigrated--year unknown--and ran a small hotel in Campbellville, Ontario. Thomas and Mary Gilmore had four more children in Ontario: Thomas (1842), Jane Ann (1844), Charles Wallace (1846), and Joseph (1848). Thomas's sister Eliza (Gilmore) Kidney had only one known child, William James Kidney, born 1850 in Campbellville.
Thomas Gilmore and Mary Reid worshipped in the Church of England or Methodist churches in Canada--Protestant.
As Ballymote appears not to be in the diocese of Killala and Achonry, and as Thomas Scanlon and Mary Gilmore (above) were married in the RC church, this would seem to be an unlikely fit. However, since it involved the name Gilmore, I thought I would post my scanty knowledge of our line.
I suspect the Gilmore and Read families were found further to the west in County Sligo.
