Walsh of Templevanny/Castlebaldwin

Aghanagh (Sligo)

Hi! Just joined this group. I have been somewhat successful tracing back all my relatives about 5 generations, but one eludes me in an area I am less familiar with. My father was from Castlebaldwin, Co. Sligo. His grandfather was John "Johnny" Walsh of Cloghoge Upper, Templevanny, Sligo (per 1911 Census), parish: Aghanagh, born around 1863. I think John's parents may have been Michael Walsh and Mary (Kelly) Walsh. But this is where it gets tricky because I they have some of the most common names around! I was told they had a stable for horses for Bianconi Coaches. I'm hoping to confirm Michael and Mary and maybe beyond.

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and located four baptismal records in Aghanagh RC parish for children of Michael Walsh and Maria/Mary Kelly, Baptismal dates shown below. I also located a January 17 1852 marriage at Aghanagh between Michael Walsh and Mary Kelly

Marian May 27 1860

John March 12 1863

Sara June 20 1868

Michael January 3 1878

Likely there were other children between 1852 and 1860 and between 1868 and 1878.

Thank you Roger. That marriage date was new to me. I came across various Michael Walshs, but that really helps center Michael & Mary's timeline. I appreciate you taking the time.

Michael:

There is always the possibility of a second Michael Walsh/Mary Kelly couple but I only located one marriage record.
