Moran - Church Fire/No records

Tumna (Roscommon)

Hello,

I am looking to see if anyone knew anything about a church fire in the Tumna area in Co. Roscommon sometime in the early 1900s?

My great grandmother was Emily Moran (born around 1905 or 1909…some discrepancy there) to John (born 1869) and Anne (nee Malone, born 1867). She had a number of siblings but not sure the exact amount. 2 or 3 of them had immigrated to the US (as well as Emily) and was hoping to find which siblings had stayed behind in Ireland. The siblings I know for sure that went to the US with Emily are Belinda “Boo” and John.

I have heard through family members that the church had burned down so there are no records. I wanted to reach out on here in the chance anyone has more information on that church or in the odd chance there’s a family connection!

Ipavone,

All the births for the children of John Moran and Anne can be found on the site www.irishgenealogy.ie under the civil records tab. I have attached Emily's here. Her other siblings were Patrick (1898), Thomas (1900), Agnes (1901), Eliza (1902), Eveline (1904), Belinda (1906), and John (1911). If you want to view the sibling's records as well, on the site, there is a function called "more search options" on left side under the field boxes - click on that, then enter only the surname Moran, check the baptism box and enter a date range, type in Carrick on Shannon for the registration district, then enter the mother's maiden name Malone. I don't have any knowledge of a church fire.

Regards,

Carolyn

I found another child....Mary Ellen (1895)...if you look at the 1901 census for Drumlahard, Tumna, you will find many Moran and Malone names listed.

Carolyn

Thank you so much for this resource! I greatly appreciate it. I was also able to find John and Anne’s marriage record!

Im headed to Ireland this fall so I’ve been trying to dig deeper into my research.

Ibpavone,

If you are visiting Ireland later this year, I suggest that you complete the meet and greet request form at this link https://www.irelandxo.com/meet-and-greet. We will do our best to arrange for a local to meet you and show you around the place of your ancestors.

Best wishes, Kieran

Hey I know a little more about the siblings that came over to the US. Thomas was one of Emily’s siblings that came over. He was my grand father. Mary Anna, Marry Ellen, Belinda, Emily, John, and Thomas all came over for sure. All of them stayed in Toledo, Ohio other than Emily and John. I’m not to sure about Patrick, Eveline, and Elizabeth “Lizzy”. I was told Patrick came over to visit but went back to Ireland. I was also told one of the girls had tuberculosis so they couldn’t immigrate over. I believe it was Elizabeth. I actually have a family tree put together if you’re interested in seeing it. Would love to hear anything your know about your great grandmother

Hi there - what crazy timing! I’m leaving Ireland today, yesterday we went to the church Anne and John were married in. I’d love to connect. Emily had 5 children which Douglas being my grandfather, and he had 4 kids with one of them being my mother. My name is Lauren Pavone if you’d like to add me on Facebook. It’ll show my hometown as being Fuquay Varina NC. This is also a link to my family tree: https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/tree/64620204/family?cfpid=38122161328
