Stephen Saunders and Mary Coyne

RoscommonOgulla (Roscommon)

Looking for more information on our family: Stephen Saunders (born 1861 died 16 June 1932) married Mary Coyne(born 1865 died 2 April 1955) They had 9 children:

Peter, Patrick, Margaret, Kathleen, Stephen, Bernard, John, Michael and Mary.

I have located a cemetery where several of the family members are buried. Kilcooley Cemetery .

I am looking for information on the parents of Stephen Saunders and Mary Coyne.

I was told the family lived between Strokestown and Tulsk Village.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched on Roots Ireland and did not see a baptismal record for a Stephen Saunders/Sanders. The Strokestown records start in 1830 but the Ogulla records do not start until 1865. I did find one Mary Coyne record in Strokestown in 1862. (see below). Possibly one or both were baptized in Ogulla prior to 1865.

I did find this family in the 1901 and 1911 censuses. Is this the family you are looking for? They married February 11, 1897. The names of their fathers were John Saunders and Michael Coyne. Go to the third link below to see the civil marriage record. You may have to sign in to see the record.

Can you make out the spelling of the town Maria Coyne was from on the Civil Records Marriage ?

Killanerty??  Can find it on the map.

The info above was very helpful!  Thank you!

I think this is the 1901 census for Maria's family and you can see that the spelling is a little different than what was shown on the marriage record. http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Roscommon/Cloonygormican/K…

My only concern is that this family was in Oran civil parish which was a good distance to the southwest of Ogulla.

Do you know the names of Maria's siblings?

I believe Tom Coyne was a sibling.  He immigrated to the US.

It was the correct family. Below from Roots Ireland is the 1872 church marriage record of Michael Coyne and Winifred Conry. Besides the names of the fathers of Michael and Winifred, they also listed the names of the mothers. I also located the baptismal record for Thomas and Mary.
