Looking for Parish Records

Roscommon

I'm visiting Ireland next month (September), will be in County Roscommon 17th/18th  and had hoped to track down the baptism/birth records of my great-grandparents, Martin Lynch (b abt 1828) and Mary Rodgers (b abt 1834).  They married in Tibohine in March 1859 and farmed the piece of land in Cleggernagh which was farmed by a Bryan Lynch in the Griffith valuation. But the parish records for Tibohine round the time of their baptisms aren't on line so I'm not sure whether Bryan is Martin's father or perhaps an uncle or grandfather.

Any suggestions on where I might find the records very much appreciated.

Also, Martin and Mary had 2 sons younger than my grandfather, Robert and Edward. All I know about them is their birth registration, then they seem to disappear from the records. Any ideas about where I might find more would also be appreciated.

I wondered if the Genealogy centre in Strokestown would have records but I don't think it's open to the public to go and search?

RootsIreland gives baptisms for four children, not three:

Action Source Surname First Name Year County

View Civil Birth Lynch John 1865 Co. Roscommon

View Civil Birth Lynch Mary 1867 Co. Roscommon

View Civil Birth Lynch Edward 1869 Co. Roscommon

View Civil Birth Lynch Robert 1871 Co. Roscommon

Thanks Patricia. I should have mentioned Mary, but I know what happened to her. She married Michael Keenan but was widowed with two young children. She left them with her mother and emigrated to America where her daughter eventually followed.

Maureen, In dealing with Irish records in the 1860s, I've never seen a couple not have children for the first five years of their marriage.So I'm guessing there were children born before John.

Just thought of one more thing: Bryan and Bernard were interchangeable. So you might also find Bryan as Bernard.

I didn't know that about Bryan and Bernard, thanks for that. The one living person I spoke to about 10 years ago who remembered my grandparents said he'd never heard a Bryan mentioned.

John stayed with his mother on the farm and didn't marry until she died, so he was quite a bit older than my grandmother and he died before I was born so I never knew him. I've not found any records of an earlier child, but it's possible his mother had a couple of miscarriages which wouldn't have been registered anywhere.

The online records are from 1833 onwards but Martin was born earlier than that, which is where I'm stuck. Id' hoped that there might be some paper records somewhere or more likely microfiche that I could try to read, but perhaps I just have to accept a brick wall.
