Healy (Killilea) family, Lismaha. Co Roscommon

Seeking anyone who might have information on my grandfather Martin Healy, who hanged himself in his barn in Lismaha, 1942

Also, his wife Mary Anne (nee Killilea) who died in Lismaha following a 2nd childbirth in 1936. She had previously lived in Bouhil and New York City. I am aware that there were at least 2 other Healy families nearby, who may have old photographs or documents from the time.

Kevin,

Are you looking for their lineage?

I think you posted this on Facebook

Greetings everyone. I have just joined your group. Hopefully, this will be of interest to some.

I am currently writing the story of my paternal grandmother Mary Anne Healy (nee Killilea), who emigrated Queenstown - New York in 1910, followed across later years by 4 sisters. She returned to Ireland and married my grandfather, Martin Healy of Lismaha, Co. Roscommon in 1927. The story is about the 'American Letter', chain migration, families fractured by emigration, infant mortality, premature death, mental health, suicide, rural solitude, and many other topics, along the way.

If your own family history includes ancestors who made that fateful trip out of Queenstown (and possibly back), I would love to hear from you, about handed-down stories, letters or images. Maybe send me a message, if interested.

Kevin,

I just found your tree on Ancestry. It looks like you have a very comprehensive tree including an article on Martin's death. Have you contacted the local parish? Are there any local businesses in the area?

mtvrdk@gmail.com

Thanks for all the information everyone.

However, I should clarify that I have birth, death, marriage records. Census docs. Newspaper clippings of Martins death. Passenger records of Mary Anne to New York and back. I am really after more local info, as I know there were cousins in the area and other families who might be friends. I was hoping for a possibility of a photo of Martin (I have none of my grandfather), and possibly information on where he was laid to rest. I have already found Mary Anne.

Thanks to all who responded.

Kevin Healy

Kevin,

Perhaps contact the church or churches or the cemeteries in the area where Martin died. They would likely have a roster of burials.
