Seeking help and information about Michael Holmes b. 1822 died abt. 1922 Roscommon & Wife Anne Casey

RoscommonElphin (Roscommon)

Hello, I am looking for information about some of my Ancestors. I know that my Great Great Grandfather Michael Holmes was a labourer and resided at house 1 or 2 (depending on the Census you look at) Gortoose, Bumlin, Roscommon. Michael was b. about 1822 and died in 1922. He was married to Anne Casey who was born abt, 1822 and she died prior to 1901. They had about Five Children: Mary (who would marry Michael Carlos) Catherine (my great grandmother who married Frank Weakley. Catherine and Frank married in Monal Creek Australia and later emigrated to Providence, Rhode Island USA), Bridget Holmes who also went to the United States and married a Cunningham, Edward Holmes, and Ann Holmes. I think Michael had a brother John and a sister Elizabeth.

Any information about Michael Holmes, Catherine Holmes, or Anne Casey would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there sorry for the delay i have made a list of websites that you can have a look on. Some of the websites can be very good, best of luck in your seach.

Ellis Island:

 Castlegarden:

 US National Archives/Immigration info:

The Boston Pilot; From October 1831 through October 1921, the Boston Pilot newspaper printed a?Missing Friends? column with advertisements from people looking for ?lost? friends and relativeswho had emigrated from Ireland to the United States. This extraordinary collection of 40,743 recordsis available here as a searchable online database, which contains a text record for each ad thatappeared in the Pilot. http://infowanted.bc.edu/ The next thing you could do is find the counties and places in Ireland your family names are mostprevalent. Look at the website http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/surname/ and perhapssomething will match some other clue you may have found elsewhere? If nothing turnsup ? it is advisable to try different variations of the spellings of the names. If you have a possiblefirst name you could try the Irish Census 1901, 1911 at www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ or the landvaluation record called Griffiths Valuationhttp://askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml
