Glancy-O'Gara, McDermott/Rogers
Hi,
I'llbe visititing Ireland in September and I would love to walk in my ancester's footsteps.
I'm looking for info on my great-great grandparentsJohn Glancy&Catherine "Kate" O'Garamarried in Carrick-on-Shannon, Kiltopghert RC Parish on June 29, 1879.John & Kateemigrated to Albany, NY in the mid 1880s where the spelling changed to Clancy. Per their marriage records John's father wasPeter, Kate'sFarrell. Their US death certificates list John'smother asBridget McDermott, Kate'sDelia Rogers, her fatherFarran.I've not been able to find anything in Irish records on John & Kate's parents.
Kiltoghert/Jamestown civil and/or parish records containthe birth in of three sons ofJohn & Kate. Peterborn May 16, 1880, baptized May 21.Patrickborn September 24, 1881, baptized September 25.Michaelbaptized August 23, 1885.Peters US World War I draft registration has the same date of birth.Patrickdied in 1912 in Albany, prior to WWI.Michaels WWI draft registration lists August 6, 1885 as his date of birth. Five children were born in the US. Another two unknown children were born, possibly in Ireland.
John Glancy had at least two brothersthat resided in Albany NY,Patrick, born about 1845 andPeter, born about 1866. I found no Irish records forPatrick. Of note, I did find birth and baptism records in County Roscommon for aPeter Glanchy, son ofPeter Glanchy & Brigid McDermott. Per Aughrim civil district recordsPeterwas born toPeter, a farmer, andBrigidof Corballywest on February 15, 1867. Elphin Parish records have aPeterborn toPeter & Brigidof Corbally on February 9, 1867 and baptized on February 13.
PS John Glancywas a shoemaker on arrival in the US, soon with his own shop, leading me to wonder if this his trade in Ireland.
