McCORMICK, McDONNELL, Nolan, FINNERAN, HANLEY of Strokestown area
Surnames:
ccJohn and Catherine McDonnell McCormick were married in the Strokestown Roman Catholic Church on January 23, 1845. The family lived in Corbohil, Parish of Cloonfinlough , Co. Roscommon, in 1864 when sons Thomas and William died and Francis was born. By 1871, John and Catherine and surviving sons, Michael, James, Patrick, John and Francis emigrated to Bolton, Lancashire Co., England. Son Michael died in 1872 and John Sr. also died in Bolton in 1879.
Patrick McCormick married Catherine Finneran in 1877. Catherine was the daughter of John and Ellen Hanley Finneran, also from Roscommon. I believe that the Finnerans are also from the Strokestown area. John and Ellen emigrated to Bolton sometime after 1871. Ellen died there in 1878. They were the parents of Mary, Patrick, Michael and Catherine.
John Finneran and all of his children emigrated to Albany NY in the early 1880s, except for Mary who was in Albany by 1869 and married Terence Riley soon after. After his death, she married Patrick Hester, another Roscommon - Bolton emigrant.
Catherine McDonnell McCormack/ick was born about 1818 and was the daughter of Michael McDonnell and Honora Jane Nolan and was probably from the townland of Cloonslanor. Catherine and son James were in Manhattan from the early 1880s until the early 1900s. James married Mary McGowen in 1881 and he died between 1900 and 1905. Catherine died in 1908 at Blackwells Island. Catherines son John was in Albany and later New York City, but returned to Bolton in 1895 and died there in 1900. I havent been able to trace Francis.
