King Family of Erronagh, Ardcarne, Boyle.
Thank heavens for a family of hoarders - how wonderful to come across a dusty booktoday in my mum's house - see attached flyleaf with inscription. The book was a prize given to my paternal granduncle Henry King who would have lived at Erronagh,Ardcarne,Boyle, Co. Roscommon. You can see the prize was presented in 1888 at Ardcarne National School. I note it says Senior Division - Henry was born in 1871 so he would actually have been 17 years old at the time! If only we knew whatever became of Henry King...... last known unmarried and serving in RIC, stationed at Manorhamilton, Co.Leitrim in 1919.
Henry's parents were Henry King Snr and Frances Halliday King (a teacher from Co. Down). Henry Snr (also an RIC Constable) died on 10th January 1903 and we presume is buried in Ardcarne Church of Ireland graveyard (despite no sign of headstone). Frances died 24 September 1919 while staying with her son Henry Jnr in Manorhamilton - her place of burial is unknown. Another of Henry Snr's sons, John Andrew King (RIC) died at Erronagh on23 December 1883, his place of burial is also unknown.
Henry Snr and Frances King are noted on the 1901 census - would local knowledge be able to show me where the house would have stood and also if there is any burial ground nearby where they may be buried if not at Ardcarne? We are presuming Ardcarne as that is where the family weddings appear to have taken place....
Many thanks in anticipation of some local "on the ground" assistance........
