Kelly & Lavin

Aughrim (Roscommon)

Hi

I'm trying to trace the children of Patrick Kelly & Mary Lavin who married Aughrim, 28.2.1859, wit Bernard Kelly & Eliza Lavin. I have found 3, Bridget 24.5.1870 (residence Dromod), illegible 5.12.1872, & what looks like Hertmann Joanna, 12.6.1878.!These were via the NLI parish records. I can't find the last two on irishgenealogy.ie

I am more inerested if they had a daughter Maria L Kelly.

A Maria L Kelly married Peter Wm Shanley, Dublin 25.10.1894. Three of their children John, Mai (Mary) & Gertrude are in our Lavin family photos from 1917. As a young child, I was taken to see John who became a well known paediatrician & my mum always said he was a 2nd cousin. though he was a lot older.

If I can pin down Mary Lavin Kelly, I can propose that she was a sister or half sister to my great grandfather Patrick Lavin, and thus, daughter of Luke Lavin, both of Ardgallagher, Co Roscommon.

On RootsIreland (paid subscription) I found the following children born to Patrick and Mary- James 1865, Michael 1865, Eleanor 168, Brigid 1870, Michael 1872, Teresa 1875, Gertrude 1878

The Church Marriage record for Peter & Mary at St. Mary's, Marlborough St. Dublin city (formerly the Pro-Cathedral*) shows her parents as Patrick (Kelly) and Mary Lavin - one of the witnesses to the marriage is a Catherine Kelly, living at the same address as the bride.

Shame we can't find the daughter Mary Kelly. Unfortunately on all the census returns her age gives varying years of birth.

Did the RootsIreland site say where the were living, Dromod?

And were any Lavins named as baptismal sponsors?

I'll take another look at the NLI records for those years above.

I checked RootsIreland and most of the baptismal sponsors were Kelly. I did not find a Lavin.
