Hello Geraldine,
Thank you so very much for all your help. I will try to summarize what I know. Using rootsireland, the only marriage I found searching for James McLaughlin and Julia (Judith/Joanna/J) Cash was on 28 July 1826 in Banagher.
Also using those names for search criteria I came up with the following names for possible children:
Mary, 1828, Ferbane
Andrew, 1832, Rahan
John, 1836, Rahan
James, 1838, Rahan
Bridget, 1840, Banagher
Ann, 1842, Banagher
Julia, 1844, Banagher
Joseph, 1845, Banagher
It would seem odd that a couple would have married in Banagher in 1826 and didn't have children until 1840 (Bridget) so it seems like the full set of children may be from the one couple? John, born 1836, would be my great great grandfather. We knew he had a brother James and a sister Mary. However, the birth date for Mary we had was around 1834, which would fit. I had guessed that Andrew was also their son as Andrew was the name of James McLaughlin's father. And Andrew may have died young or not emigrated with the family?
I will attach the record I have of Julia Cash McLaughlin's arrival in America with children James, John, and Mary. If all the children are theirs, then Bridget, Ann, Julia, and Joseph may all not have survived infancy?
Since I posted this, I've been getting some help from a group of friends who have come up with a Catherine McLaughlin who also appears to have been a daughter of James & Julia. She, however, was in America in 1849 when she married Michael Bulger. On a later census, James, Julia, John, and James McLaughlin are living with Catherine, her husband, and their children.
Thank you for the information on John and James's births. The Connolly godparent really stood out.
When Julia Cash McLaughlin died in Massachusetts in 1880, her son filed in probate court to take care of her estate. He posted a $600 bond, and two other men signed as well - John Bonner (husband of her daughter Mary) and a man named Connolly. That was the first time I had seen that name associated with the McLaughlin. So I think the Connolly godparent fits in somehow.
No, I did not ever find a marriage record for Martin Cash and Bridget Egan! I would love to see a copy of that as well!!
Very exciting and I thank you so much for all your efforts!! Please let me know if there is any more information I can provide that may help.
Ann
