Parish Name

Offaly

I am an Australian who has an Irish great grandmother, with the not so easy to research name of Mary Kelly. She arrived here, seemingly alone, in about 1859 and I have not yet identified a ship that is equivocally hers.

She was marriedin Ballarat, Victoria in 1865. Her age was 23, anda servant. Her wedding certificate identifies her parents as Michael Kelly and Elizabeth Nolan, and she is a Catholic, from Kings County; there is no way, that I know, of identifying her parish.

Can anyone help with a likely Parish?

Dear mfarrell

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

If you go to www.rootsireland.ie there is a baptism record there for a child, John born to a father Michael Kelly and mother Elizabeth Nolan. John was baptised in 1832. I think it would be a fair assumption (from the info you have given me) that this is Mary?s brother. I am limited in what I can see as this is a subscription site. If you can, have a look at it and let me know what you think. The parish in Co. Westmeath will be recorded on it.

Best wishes

Clare Doyle
