Mary Elizabeth McCabe, emmigrated 1882...
I am looking for descendants, and ancestors, of my g’g’grandmother Mary Elizabeth McCabe (daughter of Peter McCabe), who married a Peter McLean some time prior to 1865. Based on vital records in New York, and some family manuscripts, we believe that she came from County Monaghan, Ireland, the child of Elizabeth and Peter McCabe. If we are reading her handwriting correctly, the family emigrated from “De Davinel”,or “DeDaventte” Scotstown, County Monaghan.
Known family members, in 1882, were Ellen McLean (born 1866) Mary Elizabeth (1867) and Patrick (1868). Both mother and daughter were named Mary Elizabeth, and seem to have used the nickname Lizzy at various times. I am uncertain if there was an additional son named Peter as well. We have been unable to locate them in Irish, Scottish or English vital records or Census reports.
The mtDNA is H7D2A. The family were practicing Catholics in the US, but various Irish researchers we have engaged suggested that Peter McLean may have been Protestant.
