Searching for Gillespie in County Monaghan

I am searching for descendents of John, James, and David Gillespie who crossed over into Ireland from Scotland in the late 17th century. They were in county Antrim for a short time and then all three settled in County Monaghan where they married and had families. I descend from James. From what I can tell all of his family did emigrate to America in the mid 1800s.

I find that some of Johns descendents did stay in County Monaghan with daughters and granddaughters marrying into the McKinley family in Caddah, County Monoghan.

Another daughter of John Gillespie married Thomas McCullough of county Monaghan.

Does the family name Gillespie still appear and in what communities?

There are 3 Gillespie households in Co. Monaghan in the current Irish phone book. Make sure you press the residential tab when searching.

The online Irish phone book only has one Gillespie record so it does not appear to be a common name at this time.  http://www.eirphonebook.ie/#   The online phone book is only a partial list of phone users and would not include cell phones. Make sure you use the Residential Tab. As an aside, in the 1911 census there were 107 people with the surname Gillespie in Co. Monaghan.

A  John Gillespie born about 1800/1815 died 1889 Corragarry

married Anne Mecklem of Tattincake 1840 they had daughters and son John

Hi; My grandfather David Gillespie came from County Monaghan, He is the son of Samuel Gillespie and Margaret Anne (Soden). They had four sons Jack, Alfred, David and Victor. My grandfather David and his brother Jack came to Canada in 1926.

Samuel is believed to be the son of John Gillespie and Anne Mecklem but we have no information about John and Anne. Any information about this branch of our family tree would be greatly appreciated. I have spent almost 10 years looking with little success.
