ejectments on the Shirley Estate 1849 in Farney Monaghan
Monaghan
Per Prof Patrick J Duffy writings in " Assisted Emigration from the Shirley Estate 1843-54 "book :
- in the intro he describes 1300 being helped to leave (see image)
- late in the book he lists a James Duffy and a Patrick Duffy hired to tear down the houses of the ejected emigrants in 1849 spec
My GG grandfather James Joseph Duffy b1832 somewhere arrived in Cobourg Ontario Canada in time to marry Margaret Fennell in 1857 (fact).
Is there any wisdom for me to find if my James might have been Mr Shirley's James working for Mr Finnegan and/or Mr Morant. How would I do that? In fairness my only clue to James past before 1857 was his death cert which names his father as Laurence Duffy and his mom as Sarah Tracey (Lacey?). My own GF thought Enniskillen was a home town but that was at least correct for his mom Mary Drumm dtr of Thomas Drumm..
