Please accept my apology for this long delayed reply to my posting for the Thornton family in County Monaghan, Ireland. Thank you for your information on the Thornton family of Ardragh Townland in Griffith's Valuation.

Hi, Edward,

I have been following various families who emigrated from Magheross parish to Peel Co.  I have a Johannes (John?) Thornton who m., in Peel Co., Elizabeth Nelson, d.o. Clement Nelson & Jane Oliver of Carrickmaclim.  I believe her sister, Sarah Nelson, m. Robert Thornton. I'm thinking they must be part of your Thorntons.

My father has a number of Thornton matches to his yDNA (he is a Hunter, ancestors from Mullaghcroghery, Magheross).  Have you done any DNA testing?  Do you have an online tree?

Actually, a further search has Johannes' name listed also as Robert in the marriage registration, s.o William & Ann Bell. Robert was married to Elizabeth Nelson.
