brennan family/slieveroe

MonaghanKilmore (Monaghan)

I am researching, the Brennan family that resided at Slieveroe, Caddagh. My GGGGrandfather Edward lived there in 1825, (Tithe). Then Griffith Valuation (1860)has my GGGrandfather Patrick Brennan b.1805residing therehis wife's nameis unknown. I have his death cert. d. 1885. A Patrick Glenn from Drumlinny present at his death. The cert. states married, I wonder where his wife was. Then the 1901 census has residing Slieveroe, Patrick b.1867 farmer, and his sister Rose b. 1864 (both unwed). The 1911 census both still living there, but now Patrick has wed in 1902a Maggie McDonald. They have 2 children Patrick is 8 and his sister Katie is 4.

Patrick(1867) and Rose have other siblings: Edward, Mary Ann, Michael and Kate. Edward is my GGrandfather, which I have information on.

Can anyone add any info to this family. Or any living relative (Patrick and Katie) !

Hi,

Thank you very much for your message. You have done a great job tracing the family! I hope someone with information makes a connection with you and helps you to further your research.

In the meantime, have you tried looking at church records? Perhaps you may be lucky and find a record of Patrick?s (1805) marriage. Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. Slieveroe is part of Kilmore civil parish. This civil parish falls under the Catholic parish of Drunsant. To see what is available there follow this link:

You could also try searching at:

www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.

www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.

I already did a quick search for marriage records of Patrick in Monaghan on Roots. Here are the results that came back:

You need to buy credits to look at the actual record however. Given the dates of births of his children I would say maybe the top three would be the most likely-however they may also not be relevant.

Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so you should be able to find Patrick?s (1867) birth record in these civil records. This would also give you his mother?s name. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office. Here are their contact details:

I hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
