Geoghegans of Greagh

Hi thanks for your mesage and interest in Ireland Reaching Out.

You already seem to have done a lot of work on your family tree! Unfortunatley we do not have any volunteers set up in the Monaghan area just yet that would be able to assist you further.

However, perhaps you could try to place an advertisement in some of the local newsletters/messageboards reaching out to any descendants that may be in the area or at least someone that may be able to give you more information.

I found a website that may be of some use for this at the following link:

http://www.ballybay.ie/index.html

Aslo the Northern Standard is an online newspaper that circulates in Monaghan, perhaps you could try and place an ad here too: http://northernstandard.ie/

You could also contact the Ulster Historical Foundation. However, they may charge a fee for their services. Here is their contact information:

49 Malone Road,

Belfast BT9 6RY,

Northern Ireland.

Phone: +44 (0) 2890661988       Email: enquiry@uhf.org.uk

I hope this is of some help to you. Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas are not yet organized.

Kind regards,

Good morning, gosh, I sit here in New Zealand and after seeing a new article about the area my Grandparents lived, I started Googling names and came across your message.

Alice was my Great Grandmother, her son Bert was my Grandfather.  I have a lot of McAra information, with a wee bit of Geoghegan as well.

My Grandfather's sister wrote down some of this history.  I can tell you Alice is buried at Waihi, in the North Island of New Zealand.  From what I can tell, her Mother, Julia Amelia Geoghegan (known as Anne) must have come to New Zealand as well.  She is recorded having died in 1928, in Auckland New Zealand and is buried at the Hillsborough Cemetery.

If this message finds out, get in touch.

Regards

Liz
