Thomas was transported for life on the "Countess of Harcourt". He arrived in Australia on 21 Dec 1822. Worked at 'Newington' at Whittingham, near Singleton. He applied unsuccessfully in 1826 for his wife, Mary Corroghan, and his 2 children to join him from Kildare, Ireland at John Rotton's property "Newington". He was granted a ticket of leave in 1830 for apprehending the bushranger Joseph Auden. Thomas became a police constable and was given a conditional pardon in 1839. Married Rose McGarry when police constable at Invermein (near Scone) in 1839. NB, 2 sons & 3 daughters predeceased Thomas.
