I am  interested in your Webb family of Navan. My family are the Webb,s of KILLEEN-dunshaughlin-meath and I think there is a connection. There was a Michael Webb (Curragha in the family) and  because the name is unusual I would think all the different Webbs in this part are all part of the same family. Geraldine Webb.

Sorry - I just saw this post!  James Webb was born about 1859 in Oristown.  His parents were Michael Webb and Bridget Lynch.  I believe that Bridget may have had a sister, Jane, who married Michael's brother, Peter.  Michael had a sister, Anne, who married Laurence Crahan.  They immigrated to Vermont.  Michael and Bridget never left.  James came to CT.  Michael Webb's parents were Richard Webb and Catherine Corcoran.  He was from the parish Slane and she was from Kilberry.  Does any of this help?

There is a record of Peter and Jane Webb but they are Rathmolyon/Trim. I think this Peter is a Killeen Webb born 1818. There is a James born Killeen 1863. Brigid Webb of Curragha married Patrick Ward of Dunshaughlin 1840. So, they may all be distant cousins as so many families intermarried at that time. The  most used names in my Webbs were William/George. Thanks for reply. Annajane.

The most used names in my family are Richard, Catherine, Michael, Anne, and Mary.  My James was born in 1859 in Oristown.  I am not sure where or exactly when my Michael Webb was born.  Maybe around 1811-1820ish.  Don't really know.  He lived in Wilkinstown.  My Michael's daughter, Bridget (named after his wife) immigrated to NJ as did a son, Michael.  A daughter Katherine (Catherine) came to CT as did James.  They definitely could all be related.  Supposedly, there was a cousin William in NY or NJ.  Michael's sisters Anne and Mary came to VT, but Michael stayed in Ireland.   

William Webb would seem to be the common ancestor. He is my 4xtimes great-grandfather. He converted to Roman Catholism and died in Killeen-Meath 1823.

His  children that I know of were George.(my 3xg.grandfather-Elizabeth-Anne and I have just discovered a Peter.

Given that all the places are in Meath and the distances between relatively small and the name Webb been unusual I would think they are all descended from William and his wife. (whose name may have been Anne.) There is also William born Dunshaughlin 1813 who joined British Army and retired to Royal Chelsea Hospital, London. By the way William lived in Dunshaughlin before Killeen. Hope I have most of this correct. annajane.

This post caught my attention. Maybe there is someone out there with a vital piece of info to help with my search. My GGGGrandfather was John Webb who lived in Clonaslee in Queens County from 1832 until he immigrated to US in 1857. He was the boy's teacher at the National School in that town. Through DNA testing have found a link with the family of Jane Webb who married James Bradley and immigrated to Australia. I always knew John would have been sent to Clonaslee to teach from someplace else in Ireland and the link with Jane has had me looking at County Meath where Jane was born and married. It is a story in my family that John converted to Catholicism and that his family originated in England. John was born in 1787-1789. There is also a protestant teacher named Henry Webb who was teaching in the Erasmus School in Clonaslee and a Susan Webb who owned property in Clonaslee as well. Found someone who claimed Henry Webb was educated in Ballymitty in Offaly. Henry Webb died in 1857 and I have traced several of his dauugters and one son, William Henry born in 1822. John must have married later in life because his children were born between 1834 and 1848. Their names in order of birth were Elizabeth, James, Susan,John, Thomas, Catherine and Richard. I wonder if my John is somehow related to this William Webb. I've always felt that John was somehow also related to Susan and Henry Webb of Clonaslee. Any help would be appreciated! John died in New York City in 1862. His wife, the former Mary Cashin, died in 1864.

Hello Eileen, I don,t know if there might be a connection between John and William. The Webb name was unkown in Ireland before 17th century and it came in with Cromwell,s army. Most of Cromwells, soldiers were from Wiltshire Somerset -that part of England. The name is still very common in Wiltshire.

So, I think William had some connection with Cromwell and was  descended from one of those who stayed in Ireland. Why he converted to Roman Catholic during the Penal Laws I can,t understand. 

He lived in Dunshaughlin but died with his son George in Killeen. (Oct. 23rd.1823)

There was also Dean Noah Webb-Dunshaughlin. (1672-1696). He came from Wiltshire when he inherited land from his uncle William. (who got it from Cromwell). They were a very prominent family around Dunhaughlin until about 1800.  I have tried to link William to them but can,t so far.  Youn can find lots of information on line about Noah and his son Henry. Just put in Noah or Henry Webb,Dunshaughlin. So, perhaps your John had some connection there. Good luck.!  annajane.

Michael Webb-born 13 Dec. 1873-Summerhill-Trim-Meath. Parents: Peter Webb. Jane Keogh.

There is a Michael Webb- Curragh-Dunshaughlin area 1834. He was not exactly respectable.! He was a member of the gang of our famous Meath highwayman-"Collier the Robber."!
