Hughes/Heughes

MayoOughaval (Mayo)

From what I can ascertain from paper research my gg-grandparents were from Aughaval, Mayo. Philip Heughes b. c1830 married Helen Conway b. c1830. I believe Philip was a Blacksmith. Their daughter Mary Jane Hughes (spelling was changed) b. 18 Aug 1859, married my great grandfather, Neil McArthur (from Islay) in Glasgow on 17 April 1878. It seems that Mary Jane's 3 siblings, Philip, Owen, and Catherine all traveled to Scotland but I can't find any evidence on scotlandspeople of Philip or Helen having moved with themso I'm working on the assumption that they stayed (or perhaps had passed) in Mayo. Are these names familiar to anyone?

Thanks bunches

Hi Mandy,

Here's a possible baptism record from www.rootsireland.ie/ for Philip:

No luck with Helen Conway

Tried the Scottish Censuses on ancestry.com for Philip & Helen but no luck; not in Irish Census 1851 or 1901 either.

Here's a record from Griffiths Valuation 1855 (note Aughagower is only 10KM from Aughvale):
